Follow These Wakeboarding Tips for Beginners at Buxton Marine in Lewisville, Texas!

When you’re out on the lake, these helpful wakeboarding tips will come in handy:

Always Wear a Lifejacket

This is the most important boating safety rule you can follow, regardless of what wake sport you’re involved in. Be sure to wear a personal flotation device whenever you’re in the water!

Always Use a Spotter

Again, another basic boating safety rule is to have someone watching out for you at all times. The spotter alerts the boat driver of your position at all times and is able to watch out for other boats and objects in the water.

Regular vs. Goofy

Before you get out in the water, determine which stance you’ll use – regular or goofy. To figure out which foot you place forward, go with the foot you instinctively place forward anytime you’re regaining your balance or engaging in a sport.

Go With a Beginner Wakeboarding Stance

If you’re just starting out, go with a beginner wakeboarding stance having your back binding towards the end of the board at zero degrees so your weight is positioned on top of the rear fin. Have your front binding at 15-27 degrees towards the front of the board.

Use a Shorter Rope

If you’re a beginner at wakeboarding, use a shorter rope to make it easier to get up out of the water. Our team recommends your rope be between 30-50 feet.

Remain Close to Your Board

As you’re trying to get up for the first time, keep your arms and knees tucked into your chest and wait until you’re fully out of the water before slowing standing.

Maintain an Appropriate Boat Speed

Wakeboarding requires a lower boat speed than waterskiing or other water sports. We recommend keeping the speed between 14-19mph.

Keep Trying and Don’t Give Up

Like anything else, practice will make perfect so keep trying and don’t give up!
