Choose the Right Wakesurf Board from Buxton Marine in Lewisville, Texas!

The very first step, of course, is to find the right wakesurf board that will fit the size of the rider and the size of the wake put out by your inboard boat. In simple terms, the bigger the rider, the bigger the wakesurf board you’ll need and, as a result, the bigger the wake put out by your wakeboard boat, the better. Large wakesurf boards have a bigger surface area and more float and, therefore, work well for heavier riders. The opposite is true in that a younger or smaller rider might do better on a smaller, lighter board. As you can imagine, small wakesurf boards are a bit more maneuverable and faster on the wake. So while they’re great for lighter sized riders, they’re also designed for more advanced riders.

Moreover, the size of the wake your boat puts out is a determining factor in choosing the right wakesurf board. For instance, if your wakeboard boat throws out a smaller wake, a bigger board is the better option. Longer boards typically do better as they don’t take much to maintain good speed behind your boat. If your inboard towboat throws out a larger wake, you’ll enjoy the speed and maneuverability of smaller boards.

There are basically two main wakesurf boards to choose from depending on your experience and desired riding style: surf style boards and skim style boards. For less experienced riders, a surf style board can be easier to learn on. These boards typically have longer fins and, as a result, have more directional stability. Skim style boards typically have a smaller fin on the tail, giving the rider more freedom for tricks such as a 360.

For any questions on picking the right wakesurf board, or to take a look at the boards available in our pro-shop, don’t hesitate to contact our team at Buxton Marine, located off I-35 in Lewisville, TX. We look forward to seeing you on the water, enjoying these final summer days!
