I honestly have to say that this is my favorite buying experience of all time.” – Frank G.

“Amazing dealer and an absolutely first class experience in every aspect…the team works with you in every aspect and takes care of everything.” – Gary M.

“I bought a G23 from Buxton a few weeks ago and I cannot say how impressed I am with this dealer. From management, sales, parts, service, and pro shop. I don’t ever do reviews, but these guys deserve it! Best customer service I have ever had!” – Randy R.

Nautique Brings you Boat Capacity Ratings You Can Trust

When shopping for a new wakeboard or wakesurf boat, it’s important to look for the sticker with the boat capacity ratings on it to ensure you are buying the right boat for your recreational needs.

Did you know that not all boating manufacturers account for ballast in their boat capacity numbers?

That’s a scary thought – especially when you bought the boat with the intention of using the ballast for wakesurfing or wakeboarding!

How Can Boat Capacity Standards Vary by Manufacturer?

It’s a common misconception that the U.S. Coast Guard regulates all boating capacity ratings, when in fact, it only regulates boats up to 19 ft. After that, the NMMA – or National Marine Manufacturers Association – develops boat capacity ratings for participating manufacturers using boat size, materials, depth, etc. to determine the appropriate number. The ABYC creates standards for boats over 26 ft.

While most manufacturers – like Nautique and manufacturers carried at Buxton Marine – are a part of this association, it’s very important to note that some are not. If a boating manufacturer is not a part of the NMMA, they do not have to build their boat to specific standards and can state any capacity and ballast numbers they choose. This is very important when it comes to ballast because the NMMA requires all factory-installed ballast to be reported and accounted for in the capacity. Some manufacturers choose to ship boats to dealers without the ballast included, which means a dealer installs it after-market. The problem with this is that the added ballast is not included in the final capacity rating on the sticker and could affect your safety and liability if something goes wrong.

The Bottom Line: When buying a new wakeboard boat in Texas, pay close attention to capacity and ballast numbers. You can always trust Buxton Marine and Nautique to sell only factory-installed ballasts, so there is no question as to how much weight the boat can hold. There is a reason the pros choose Nautique!!

Boat Buying Guide: 5 Things to Check Before Buying a Used Boat

Summer is here and it’s not too late to take advantage of a summer on the lake. But first, you’ve got to get a boat! If you’re new to boating, buying a used boat may be a great way to dip your toes into the waters of boat ownership. But not so fast! Before buying a used boat, be sure to check these 5 things:

  1. Trailer

Yes, the trailer is as much a part of the boat as the boat itself. If you’re hauling this boat to the lake every weekend, you want to know your trailer is in tip top condition. Inspect the wheels for signs of bearing grease or brake fluid leaks. Check the bunk for wear and tear. Don’t worry if you see a little rust; that’s completely normal.

  1. Cold Start

A cold start is simply cranking the engine for the first time in 24 hours. Be sure your boat dealer gives you the opportunity to run the boat with a cold start before purchase so that you can listen for any clanking, clicking, or humming noises that might occur upon cranking the engine. If you do hear noises, this is a sign of the oil pressure bleeding off in the engine or other engine issues.

  1. Engine Oil

Check the engine oil before buying a used boat by lifting the dipstick. The oil shouldn’t have any water separation (an indicator of head gasket problems), should be free of a strong gas smell, and should not be globby or gritty.

Beautiful 2016 Super Air Nautique G21 for sale now at Buxton Marine – your Lewisville Boat Dealer!

  1. Engine Hours

We all know the lower the engine miles, the better the boat. However, don’t take the screen’s reading at face value. Be sure to check the hours before test-driving the boat and then after driving the boat to make sure the odometer is in good working condition and accurately portraying the hours.

  1. Electronics

Don’t assume because some electronics work, that all the electronics will work. Check all buttons and switches before buying a used boat. If some work and some don’t, you might be looking at faulty electrical wiring.

For years, used boat buyers have trusted Buxton Marine in Lewisville, Texas when buying a used boat. Each of our boats has undergone a lengthy vetting process so there are no surprises. Come see us today and let us find the perfect used boat in Lewisville for your needs.

Buxton Marine Lewisville Celebrates National Safe Boating Week!

At the premier Lewisville boat dealer, Buxton Marine, safety is one of our top concerns. Not only do we want you to have fun on the lake, but we want everyone to arrive home safely.

National Safe Boating Week is May 20-26, 2017, and in honor of Safe Boating Week, Buxton Marine wants to review a few important safety tips:

  1. Life Jackets are a Must

It’s not enough to have the life jackets on board with you; they must be accessible! Better yet – keep it on you at all times! A study by the US Coast Guard shows that of the drownings that occurred in 2015, 85% could have been preventable if the person had been wearing a life jacket. Of course, children must wear a life jacket at all times.

  1. Never Drink and Drive

This is a no brainer, but with Memorial Day and National Safe Boating Week coming up, Buxton Marine reminds you it’s never okay to drink and operate a motor vehicle – on land or water.

  1. Take a Boater’s Safety Course

New to boating? Taking a boat safety course is always a good first step when getting started. Furthermore, anyone born on or after Sept. 1, 1993 is required to take a course if operating a boat with a 15p horsepower or more.

  1. Use an Ignition Safety Switch

An ignition safety switch a device that allows the boat to shut off, should the driver be thrown from the boat or unable to operate the boat any longer. The US Coast Guard reports that using an ignition safety switch properly could reduce boat-related deaths by 89%!

Have a safe and fun Memorial Day Weekend and help Buxton Marine spread the word on National Safe Boating Week! And should you need a new boat to get you started, call the number one boat dealer in Lewisville, Texas – Buxton Marine!

Tips & Tricks: Teach Your Child to Wakeboard in 4 Easy Steps

Trying to teach your child to wakeboard can be a difficult and frustrating process. But like anything, practice makes perfect, and Buxton Marine – the best boat dealer in Lewisville, Texas – is here with some tips on how to make the process a little simpler with these 4 steps:

Step 1: Walk on the Moon

One of the first things children must understand when being introduced to watersports is to stay calm and relaxed through the whole process. Tell your child he or she is an astronaut and they are trying to gently glide through space or walk on the moon.

Step 2: Curl Up in a Ball

When you teach your child to wakeboard, have them start by pretending he or she is a ball. Keep elbows and knees in, and then have the board float out in front of them. Don’t let them drag limbs in the water loosely.

Step 3: Don’t Stand Up Until Shorts are out of the Water

Kids have a tendency to want to stand up very quickly once the boat begins to pull. Teach them to fight that urge, staying seated as long as possible or until their shorts – or entire legs – are out of the water. Then slowly rise into a standing position.

Step 4: Smash a Bug

Once standing, most children are able to naturally rotate the board with the nose pointing toward the boat. If this doesn’t happen naturally, tell your child to bear weight on their back heel, acting as though they are gently – but forcefully – smashing a bug with it. This will teach your child to wakeboard and rotate it appropriately.

Want more tips on how to teach your child to wakeboard? Buxton Marine – the #1 Nautique dealer in Texas – is happy to share a few more of our favorite tips and tricks. We are your one-stop-shop for all of your boating, wakeboarding, wakesurfing, and water skiing needs.

Boating with Kids: Safety Tips from Buxton Marine Lewisville

Enjoying the water with your family and boating with kids can be one of the most rewarding family activities and source of many memories that will be cherished for years to come. Whether you have a ski boat, wakeboard boat, fishing boat, or something in between, it’s important to instill boating safety tips into your kids. Here are 4 top safety tips for boating with kids from Buxton Marine – your top Lewisville boat dealer:

  1. Buy the Right Life Jacket

Life jackets can be uncomfortable for children, but it’s essential that they wear them at all times! Make sure your child’s life jacket fits well, preferably with a crotch strap, a handle in the back to grab them if necessary, and a collar that will flip the child over face up in the water. Bright colors are also good for life jackets, as they increase visibility.

  1. Add a Whistle to the Child’s Life Jacket

A safety whistle can be an excellent tool if a child is sitting in the water unattended and waiting for the boat to come pick them up again. Consider attaching a safety whistle to each child’s life vest and teaching them when and how to use this handy device!

  1. Create Refuge from the Sun

When boating with kids, it’s easy to forget how draining the sun can be! Create spaces in your boat that a child can take a nap or seek refuge from the sun in general. Consider purchasing a boat with a Bimini top or other removable top that can shield the sunrays if need be.

  1. Set a Good Example

Children often learn by example. Practice safe boating habits and train your children in them as they ride on the boat. No dangling over the side, being aware of the propeller, asking before jumping in, etc. are all safe boating rules that can be taught by example.

Ready to begin boating with kids in Lewisville, Texas? Head to Buxton Marine today and let us show you the boat of your dreams! Good times ahead!
