What Makes a Nautique Boat Worth the Price Tag?

At Buxton Marine – the #1 Nautique dealer in the country – we realize that Nautique boats are not cheap – but it’s for good reason. What makes a Nautique worth the price tag, you ask? Let’s talk about a few things that really set the Nautiques apart from the rest of the pack:

Powerful Engines

There is a reason the pros prefer Nautique. Each Nautique is built with a Pleasurecraft Marine Engine Company (PCM) engine that uses the latest in technology, along with 40 years of reliability testing, to create the best engine on the market. These guys have the art and science of engine building down and we’re delighted to have PCM engines in each and every Nautique we sell.

5 Year, Transferrable Warranty

Nautique stands behind its products and provides a customer service experience second-to-none with a 5 year, transferrable warranty. When you’re spending this much on a boat, you want 93 years of proven experience in the boating industry backing your boat purchase. Nautique has proven time and again that our customers come first and we want them to enjoy every aspect of their purchase without any regrets.

Nautique Surf System

If you love to wakesurf, then give the Nautique Surf System a try! Beautiful, perfectly formed waves appear at the touch of a button. Any lake or river is now a surfer’s playground. Just throw the rope in and enjoy the ride!

Quality Craftsmanship

No other manufacturer has the quality and craftsmanship that you get with each Nautique boat. Each part of your Nautique is handcrafted or hand-installed in Orlando, Florida. The innovative design of the boat allows for more convenience, all while quality you can trust. In fact, Nautique has an internal stringer system that keeps the ballasts under the floors vs. clogging up the storage areas, which actually improves the strength of the hull.

Lewisville Boat Maintenance: 4 Tips to Help Your Engine Last Longer

Most boat owners consider their boat – whether it’s a Nautique, MasterCraft, Supra, Tige, etc. – to be a valuable asset. And with the investment, comes the inevitable Lewisville boat maintenance.

Many customers at Buxton Marine ask us if routine maintenance is necessary, and the answer is certainly yes. It extends the life of your boat and helps your engine last longer. However, there are some simple things you can do on your own to prolong the life of your boat engine:

Get Out on the Lake!

This is an easy one! Sure, you might have seasons when it’s more difficult to do so, but running the engine is an essential – and simple – way to extend the life of your engine. When an engine sits cold for too long, the oil and lubricant drains off of the components, making everything a little sluggish. Just get out to the lake on a regular basis, and your engine will thank you.

Ease into It

We’re all in a hurry to get out on the lake, but be sure to idle your engine for a few minutes after cranking it to help the oil warm up. Warming the oil helps the engine run more smoothly, without any stress on the components. If you throttle it too soon while the engine is still cold, it just creates more stress that could leave lasting effects.

Visit Buxton Marine Lewisville – the #1 Nautique dealer – for all your boat maintenance needs!

Plan to Cruise the Lake

When your Nautique boat is in cruising speed, it’s in its sweet spot. The engine isn’t the least bit taxed and everything is humming along perfectly. When you spend an extended amount of time at full throttle, you may not immediately notice any effects because the hours of boat use are unaffected. However, it’s just common sense that hours on the lake that are at higher RPMs are going to produce more stress on the engine than hours that are at cruising speed. Your boat is designed to take the higher RPMs, just make sure you’re balancing that with time cruising.

Flush the Engine

We know it’s a pain, but routine Lewisville boat maintenance includes flushing the engine after each day out on the lake. This avoids corrosion from deposits in the water and helps keep everything clean.

Have more questions about Lewisville boat maintenance? Give Buxton Marine in Lewisville, Texas a call today! Our service team is happy to offer suggestions for prolonging the life of your investment, and as always, we’re happy to perform any boat maintenance you need.

Boat Storage Tips: What You Must Do as Summer Draws to an End

With Labor Day weekend behind us, it’s time to start thinking about pumpkins, football, and the holiday season. It’s hard to believe Fall is almost here!

At Buxton Marine Long Cove and Buxton Marine Lewisville, we hope you enjoyed the summer on your Nautique and wanted to give you some boat storage tips as you begin thinking about storing your boat for the Fall/Winter season:

Prep Now for Next Season

Don’t just store your boat – think about how you want to find your boat at the beginning of the boating season next year!

  • Make sure all exterior scratches or dings are repaired.
  • Research the best storage facilities to protect your boat during the off-season.
  • Get a professional boat winterization to make sure the engine and systems on-board are clean and ready to be stored.
  • Get a proper boat cover that will keep dust and debris off your boat while stored.

Deep Clean the Boat

Any stains, spills, or sitting water can lead to mildew, mold, and other issues when you’re ready to use your boat next season.

  • Take all of your cushions out, clean, and then store separately. It’s even smart to get a boat-specific vinyl protectant and treat the cushions and other upholstery with that as well.
  • Professionally clean all carpet on board.
  • Check each compartment below to make sure there are no oil spills that could cause damage.

Maintenance is Key

Once you’ve handled all the external and cosmetic cleaning, it’s important to use these boat storage tips to maintain the engine and components.

  • Carefully test all of the electronic components on the boat, and repair any issues before storing.
  • Change the oil before storing the boat.
  • Make sure the hull is properly supported during storage to prevent any cracking due to uneven weight.

If you aren’t sure where to start with preparing your boat for storage, call Buxton Marine Lewisville or Buxton Marine Long Cove today! Our service team will gladly get your boat ready for storage with our Lewisville boat winterization package, tailored to your boat and your needs. Call us today to set up an appointment!

4 Common Boat Anchoring Mistakes to Avoid – Buxton Marine Lewisville

If you’re spending a day at the lake, chances are you’ll be spending some time anchored in the water. Maybe you’re taking a quick break to let kids jump out and swim or maybe you’re anchored near a beach for lunch. Whatever your reason, you’ll want to make sure you’re anchoring properly by avoiding these 4 common boat anchoring mistakes:

  1. Anchoring in the Wrong Spot

First things first, you need to find a good spot to anchor if you are going to avoid boat anchoring mistakes. Don’t attempt to anchor down right next to another boat where the wind may blow one boat into another. Also, it goes without saying that you shouldn’t drop anchor on top of another anchor. Look for an area that is clear of other boats, but also shielded from waves and wind.

  1. Insufficient Anchor Rode

Anchor rode is the rope that is attached to the boat and the anchor. Before you drop your anchor, make sure that you have enough anchor rode available for the scope and that the rode is clear of all knots and tangles.

  1. Insufficient Scope

This goes along with rode, but scope is the calculated ratio of distance from the bottom of the lake to the top of the bow, multiplied times how much rode you need. Generally you want a 3:1 or 5:1 scope. You can’t just assume because the lake is 10 ft deep, that you only need 12-15 ft of anchor rode. It’s just not enough.

  1. Not Securing the Anchor Properly

First of all, the anchor should always be attached to your boat before dropping it. (You knew that already, right?!) After double-checking it, slowly ease the anchor over the bow of the boat – never the stern! Be sure to account for some drag as the anchor secures in the bottom of the lake. If you aren’t sure if your anchor is secure, you can always very slowly put your boat in reverse to test the anchor’s strength. If you’re caught, then you’re ready to go!

When was the Last Time You Did a Boat Trailer Inspection?

Many boat owners make the mistake of regularly inspecting their boat for issues, all while completing forgetting about doing a boat trailer inspection.

Don’t let a great day at the lake go sour because of boat trailer issues! Instead, check these 5 things before heading to the lake:

  1. Trailer Tires

Just as you would regularly check the tires on your tow vehicle, don’t neglect to check the tires on your trailer. Trailer tires have a life of 2-3 years – and 3 is pushing it! Be sure to look for any dry rot or splitting to avoid accidents on the road that can cause costly damage to your boat and trailer.

  1. Trailer Brakes

Whether your trailer has electric brakes or surge brakes, take a moment to take a short drive around the block and make a hard stop. Do the brakes feel strong? If not, take your trailer into your local boat dealer for a complete boat trailer inspection. Faulty brakes are not to be messed with!

  1. Trailer Chains

Chains can easily get worn down or damaged from dragging on the ground or going in and out of the water, so be sure to give them a once-over before pulling the boat trailer. Quick tip: when hooking up the chains, crisscross them under the tongue. The chains act as a backup plan should something ever happen to your coupler and the chains need to catch the tongue of your trailer.

  1. Trailer Electrical System & Lights

Once of the most obvious boat trailer issues is having a light out – and it will earn you a ticket if you get pulled over for it! Check lights each time you use the boat trailer, and be sure to check all electrical connections and wiring for corrosion, dry rot, or cracking.

  1. 5. Trailer Bunks, Rollers, Bow Stop

Sometimes these tiny components get overlooked, so when doing a boat trailer inspection, be sure to see if these are in good working condition. Trailer rollers and bunks cradle your boat on the trailer, so you want to make sure the bolts haven’t rusted out. Bow stops are also vital to loading your boat properly.

If you are in need of a full boat trailer inspection in Lewisville, Texas, be sure to bring your trailer into Buxton Marine Lewisville! Our service department will be happy to give your boat trailer a thorough inspection, point out any issues, and perform the necessary repairs.

5 Wakesurf Mistakes to Avoid – Buxton Marine Lewisville

Whether you’re cruising on Lake Lewisville or making waves at Cedar Creek Lake, you can rest assured that your brand new Nautique boat is built for fun.

And you know what’s fun: wakesurfing!

If you’re new to wakesurfing, here are 5 common wakesurf mistakes to avoid:

  1. Don’t Go too Fast

When wakesurfing, the boat doesn’t need to be going as fast as it does when you’re wakeboarding, skiing, or pulling a tube. While wakeboarders generally wakeboard at higher speeds (as do skiers), you’ll want to ask your driver to keep the boat around 10 mph – maybe even more like 9 mph depending on your skill.

  1. Don’t Try to Stand Up Too Soon

Here’s another one of our common wakesurf mistakes to avoid: standing too soon. Before the boat accelerates, just lay back in the water and relax. The back of your heels will be resting on the board and you’ll be holding onto the rope. As the boat begins to pull you up, you’ll feel the board come toward your feet and your feet begin to stand on the board at the same time. Resist the urge to stand too soon. Remain squatted with feet a comfortable distance apart until you’re fully balanced on the board.

  1. Don’t Get the Wrong Gear

Don’t assume that your wakeboard or ski rope is going to work well for wakesurfing too. Wakesurf ropes are generally shorter, have knots to pull and hold on to, and are made to maximize the ride. Likewise, look into getting a decent wakesurf board that will make wakesurfing easier for a beginner than if you attempt to use a regular surf board.

  1. Don’t Hold Onto the Rope the Whole Time

Once you’ve got your balance and feel some slack in the rope, it’s time to give real surfing a shot! Don’t be afraid to throw the rope back into the boat once you feel comfortable; the wake will propel you!

  1. Don’t Give Up!

If you don’t get the hang of it the first time, one of the biggest wakesurf mistakes you can make is to give up! Watersports enthusiasts of all ages love wakesurfing because it’s easy on your body and easy to keep giving it a try without hurting yourself. Have fun and remember these wakesurfing tips from Buxton Marine to get you on your way! And as always – if you’re in the market for new wakesurf boards, wakesurf ropes, or a brand new Nautique to wakesurf behind, Buxton Marine has you covered as the best boat dealer in Lewisville!

Good times ahead!
